Who was Steve McQueen?

Steve McQueen was an American actor and racing driver.  In 1971, McQueen starred in the auto-racing drama Le Mans.  He was an avid motorcycle and car enthusiast. When he had the opportunity to drive in a movie, he performed many of his own stunts, including some of the car chases in Bullitt and the motorcycle chase in The Great Escape.  His acting career started in the 1950's.  On 7 November 1980 Steve McQueen died at the age of 50.  Years after his death, he remained a popular star and was still the "King of Cool" and was one the the highest-earning dead celebrities. A rights-management agency head credited Branded Entertainment Network (called Corbis at the time) with maximizing the profitability of his estate by limiting the licensing of McQueen's image, thereby avoiding the commercial saturation of other dead celebrities' estates. As of 2007, McQueen's estate entered the top 10 of highest-earning dead celebrities.
